Festival filled with fun and free activities
"Planet
Earth: There's No Place Like Home" is the theme of this year’s annual Earth Day
Festival on Sunday, April 19th, from 11 am to 5 pm at
Victory Park, behind Haggin Museum in Stockton. This is the
premiere environmental event in all of San Joaquin County,
and as always, the focus of the day long festival is to
educate you about taking care of our natural resources – the
earth, air and water. With global warming, conservation and
other environmental issues taking a spotlight in the world
these days, we expect a crowd hungry and eager to learn how
to take care of their environment. It is a fun day for
families, and best of all, admission is free.
The Festival will have dozens of informative, interactive
booths, displays and exhibits, plus there will be plenty of
great food and exotic crafts. Local area schools will be
teaching you how to take better care of our earth with a
variety of hands-on activities, and environmental
organizations will educate you about the important issues
that impact you and how you can make a difference. Community
agencies will help you live a healthier, more positive life,
and green businesses will assist you in making changes to
your home and workplace. Over 100 vendors will border the
oak trees and cross the grass field at Victory Park, making
this Earth Day Festival the biggest ever. Close to 10,000
people attend this event annually.
Join the hundreds of cyclists who will bike around the
neighborhood as part of the Family Fun Bike Ride and Parade.
Costumed children, adults and bikes are encouraged, so wear
your wildest environmental look. Kids can strut as their
favorite animal in the Endangered Species Parade that will
circle the park. Or participate as a drummer in the Drum
Circle that traditionally closes the Festival on a
percussive high note.
